Majestic Longhorn is an oil painting that was completed in February 2023.. It has a custom made frame that compliments the painting. The longhorn appears to have paused in the field and reflecting upon something. The Texas Longhorn was fashioned entirely by nature in North America. Stemming from ancestors that were the first cattle to set foot on American soil almost 500 years ago, it became the sound end product of "survival of the fittest". Shaped by a combination of natural selection and adaptation to the environment, the Texas Longhorn is the only cattle breed in America which - without aid from man - is truly adapted to America. In his book The Longhorns, J. Frank Dobie states this situation well: "Had they been registered and regulated, restrained and provided for by man, they would not have been what they were. Born in Sulphur, Louisiana, Luke Autrey is largely a self-taught artist living in Austin, Texas. With an interest in art and painting since childhood, Luke was inspired to start painting late in life by his family & partner. Luke was also inspired and given direction by family member, American Impressionist James Scoppettone. Luke's current series is inspired by his upbringing on a farm in a very rural area where ominous skies or oncoming dusk would end time outside.
